It’s not a lie that in Costa Rica a lot of different things can/must be watched. But one thing you definitely should not miss is watching the turtles when they arrive at the coasts! One wonderful place to see them is “Playa Ostional” nearby Nosara. There is a natural park where guides show you the whole process of turtles’ breeding on the coast. There they lay their eggs in the sand and afterwards they vanish again into the sea. The turtles appear each month 3 days before and 3 days after new moon. Each turtle lays 80-120 eggs, but only about 5 % of these eggs survive. The whole process lasts approximately 1,5 hours and of course afterwards the turtles are very exhausted. In the dry season fewer turtles arrive than in the rainy season (winter from may to december). Unfortunately many turtle eggs are destroyed because of other turtles, and the heavy sun during the summer season. So go and investigate this costarican special nature-event by yourself!
